My Favorite Diy Home Storage Ideas

Introduction

This post has been updated. We’ve added more storage ideas and images.

If you’re looking for simple and affordable ways to organize your home, I’ve got some ideas for you! These DIY organizers are great because they can be made quickly and easily with materials from around the house—without even having to buy anything new! Plus, these projects don’t require any special skills whatsoever—just some measuring, drilling and hammering. You’ll be amazed by how much space these projects will free up around your house—and how much money you’ll save on expensive organizers that don’t last long anyway! Let’s get started:

DIY wall pockets

  • Use a power drill to make holes in the wall.
  • Use a level to make sure the shelves are straight.
  • Mark hole locations with pencil and then insert screws into holes using screwdriver or Allen wrench (depending on what kind of screws you’re using).
  • Pound nails into wall with hammer, making sure they’re flush against each other so they don’t stick out too far past shelf edge!

Hanging shoe organizers

  • Materials needed:
  • Shoe organizers, which can be purchased at most retail stores or online. I prefer to get the ones with clear pockets so I can see what’s inside them better.
  • A drill, which you’ll use to make holes on the wall where you want your shoe organizers hung (you may need a second person for this step). If you don’t have one, try asking someone who does!

Turn an old door into a cabinet

Turn an old door into a cabinet.

  • Remove the door from its hinges, and sand down any varnish or paint to prepare for painting.
  • Prime the surface with a coat of primer, then paint it in any color you like. Attach a handle to one side of your new cabinet if you’d like to be able to open it easily later on (I chose black).
  • Install your newly transformed piece of furniture by securing it onto the wall using screws or brackets; I was lucky enough to have drywall anchors built into my walls already! If not, you can always use nails and glue instead!

Make this DIY wall organizer in minutes!

  • Materials:
  • Wooden planks, at least 1.5 inches thick (you can use 1x3s or 2x3s)
  • Screws and nails (size depends on the type of wood you choose)
  • Hammer or nail gun (if you’re using one)
  • Time: 15 minutes to an hour depending on how many shelves you make and if they’re all exactly the same size! You’ll need more time if your measurements are a little off or if there are any imperfections in your cuts that need to be smoothed out before painting.
  • Cost: $20-$50 for materials depending on what type of wood you use

Build a wall mounted desk organizer with hooks and baskets

This organizer is great for keeping your office supplies organized and within reach. It hangs on the wall and has baskets to hold pens, pencils, highlighters and other small items. It also has hooks for larger items like keys or coats.

You can make this organizer out of wood instead of plastic if you’re handy with tools!

Turn an old ladder into a shoe rack

If you have an old ladder laying around your house, there’s no reason not to turn it into a shoe rack. And as an added bonus, this DIY project can also be used as a coat rack or storage for other items like umbrellas and hats.

If you want your new shoe rack to match the rest of your decor, all you need is some paint! If not, use whatever color(s) speak to your personality and make it stand out from the crowd (or blend in with everything else).

Get creative with your built-in kitchen storage!

  • Use a pegboard to hang utensils and tools.
  • Mount a wall-mounted shelf in your kitchen to store pots, pans, and other items.
  • Turn an old dresser into storage for dishes and glasses.
  • Use cabinet doors for spices or other small items that need to be stored out of sight but easily accessible

These ideas will help you get organized without spending a fortune.

Organization is one of the most important things you can do to help your home feel more like a home. It’s also one of those things that everyone knows they need, but few people actually get around to doing.

It’s not just about making sure you have somewhere safe for all your stuff–it also helps when everything has its place and can easily be found when you need it.

These DIY storage solutions will add functionality without breaking the bank or requiring professional skills (though some might require power tools). You’ll find ideas online for everything from closet shelves to spice racks, so no matter what kind of organizational needs your space has, there are probably ways for you do this yourself!

Conclusion

I hope these ideas have given you some inspiration to get your home organized. There are so many great ways to make use of the space you have, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money!
